MIRRORS

Bronze, brass and aluminium + polish

Daphna Laurens answered the call to question the relationship of humans to objects – which actively enables a designer to enhance a product’s value – with a quote of Luigi Pirandello (1904): ‘Fantasy embellishes [the product] by encircling it and, as it were, illuminating it from within with those precious images of which it reminds us or to which we feel an instinctive connection.’

They designed a series of 3 mirrors (made of bronze, brass en aluminium) each of which reflect our image differently, both in colour and direction. ‘We need ‘mirrors’ (be it other humans, objects or animals) to reflect us, as to learn about ourselves’, says Daphna Laurens. The shapes seem to arise from the tabletop and so appear to be fluid shapes.
